Little by little (feet)
Time seems to be weirdly rushing by at the moment. Here we are, a third of the way through the year already, and the weeks seem to be flying by. I’d thought that with everything else going on in the world that the pace of life would have appeared to slow down, not speed up. Is this just the effect of having a child?!
Since I last wrote I feel like my goals have changed a hundred times over. Things certainly haven’t gone to plan. As winter set in and we found ourselves under the rules of lockdown three we unfortunately also found ourselves without any childcare. Any work for me completely ground to a halt. Flora and I spent our days building lego brick towers and staring out the window, watching birds and yearning for better weather.
Alongside our hibernation I was also feeling pretty rough to boot. What I can reveal to you now is that I’m expecting studio assistant number two (due Sept 1st). First trimester fatigue, a very active toddler, broken nights sleep, lockdown isolation and not enough fresh air really took their toll and I am so glad to be out the other side now. Thankfully with the emergence of spring we’ve been able to reconnect our childcare bubble with my parents and I’m back to getting a few odd hours in the studio when Matt has a break in his work on the weekend.
So here I am, six months after having started a warp off and I’ve only just finished setting up the loom. This must be the longest project I have ever conducted! I’m trying not to despair given this process would under normal circumstances only have taken me a week max. I had never imagined that it would be this impossible to get anything done, but then I also had no idea that a global pandemic would strike just as I was trying to get to grips with motherhood and self employment. Now the warp is finally ready to weave it does at least feel like there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Can I get this warp finished before baby number two arrives?! The deadline is looming!
